When a baby arrived in a family, the custom was to get the baby baptised, even if the parent(s) did not go to church.

But that is not the case today, but many new parents want to mark the arrival of their baby with some form of ceremony. A naming ceremony is very appropriate, and it can be held anywhere, be it in a woodland, garden, home, hotel etc., and I have even conducted such services on the beach.
Parents are able to choose promises to make to the child, as well as promises for others to make, for example, “to support the parents”, and you can have sponsors (like Godparents). Poems, Readings, Music can all be personalised for the ceremony, which lasts around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the content.
As an ordained person I can ask God for a blessing on the child, whether you believe this or not, and often older members of the family are pleased this is included, because they really wanted you to have a “Christening”.
I usually wear a suit with shirt and tie, but should you feel some of the family, friends would like to see me wearing a clerical collar I am happy to do this. It is your ceremony and you are in control totally, and in a way I am a “Master of Ceremonies”
You will get a Certificate showing that you have had this ceremony for your baby, which you can keep and put with your “baby box or file”.
